Sustrans sends a Persuasive Message to Government in Wales
Lee Waters has been appointed as the new National Director for Sustrans Cymru in place of Matt Price. After six years in the saddle Matt has moved on to new challenges with Cardiff Council.
Lee joins Sustrans from ITV Wales where he was Chief Political Correspondent and presenter of the weekly programme 'Waterfront'. Although originally from the Amman Valley in Carmarthenshire, Lee now lives in Barry with his wife and young son.
He was reintroduced to the joys of cycling by family rides. Having a background in politics and journalism, Lee is keen to raise the profile of sustainable transport. "With the Assembly getting new powers from May there is a great opportunity to push the sustainable transport agenda" Lee said. "It is now fashionable for our political leaders to talk about the need to tackle the causes of climate change, which is great. But words and actions are two different things. Our challenge is to demonstrate that investment in walking and cycling is not an optional add-on, but an essential part of reducing greenhouse gasses. Changing the way we travel is the key. Politicians can provide part of the answer, but we have to change the hearts and minds of the people too".
