Cycleways in North Wales
News update
Conwy
The important Conwy Estuary Cycleway has finally been approved. Click here.
The cycleway between Rhos on Sea and Llandudno promenade (via Glan y Mor Road and Penrhyn Hill) was opened in June 2004. We are working with the Council to identify the best route through Llandudno town centre and on towards West Shore, which in due course will join with the £6.4m scenic route being built along the Conwy estuary linking to Glan Conwy and Conwy. Conwy Council has now completed the foot/cycle bridge in Kinmel Bay. This is an important link off the National Cycle Network at Kinmel Bay, providing access to a major employment area and a safe route to school.
Further works are continuing to develop the local cycle network around Kinmel Bay and Abergele.
Denbighshire
The design work has started on the missing link through Prestatyn Golf Club, which should be completed by the end of the financial year.
The bridges at Rhyl and Kinmel Bay are now complete and open to walkers and cyclists. An official opening is hoped to take place at the end of the year. This project was funded by the Welsh Assembly Government Transport Grant.
Flintshire
Work on the early phases of the Dee Coastal Path is scheduled to start at the end of the year. The Hawarden Bridge at Shotton has been widened from 1 metre to 2.5 metres. This will greatly improve access for walkers and cyclists crossing the river and help further the commuter potential of this route between Shotton and Deeside Industrial Zone. Flintshire County Council is also investigating the possibility of a direct link off Route 5 at the former railway triangle to the Toyota works, as well as the continuation of the route along the coast to Flint Castle.
