CONWY ESTUARY CYCLE ROUTE - A TASTER OF THINGS TO COME

Partly constructed cycle path alongside the Conwy estuary

We make no apologies for our delight at being able to show you our first real shot of what's in store for those walking or cycling along the new Conwy Estuary Shared Use route between Llandudno West Shore, and Glan Conwy. This is the section from Deganwy Marina to Conwy Cob. It's the first stage, and currently under construction. Glan Conwy is in the far distance. As a Safe Route to School for students of Aberconwy High School, it must surely be without equal.

You may well ask why this route has been vigorously opposed by a handful of residents of Marine Crescent, Deganwy, (including forcing a public inquiry), when it will give so much pleasure to so many people of all ages - and fundamentally change for the better the tourism market in the area. The answer is simple - cycling. If the aim had been to exclude cycling from the route, without doubt this would have gone through without a whimper. You ask us why some people oppose cycling? We have our theories. But that's another story.

All credit to those members of Conwy County Borough Council who share our vision for the future. And the Officers who have needed the patience of Job dealing with some members of the public
